I noticed a spaced line of circular copses, to the south of the field. Although they're probably a bit large, I wonder if they're overgrown bomb craters ?

Looking at the scale of them on Google maps I think they might be a little bit too big - Google Maps

Yes, I had a look also. However, tress often grow (or are planted) around the edge of craters, and although these examples are rather large, the 'pattern' fits with the spacing from a 'stick' of bombs, and growth over the years, perhaps 'cultivated', might explain the size.
Probably turn out to be something un-related though !
