There was a fence in front of me. That's as close as I could get to the motors on the trailer (and the S-61).

That Catalina, I thought it had been re-skinned and engines running in, what, 2007? I think I took photos of it at Glendale about 20 years ago approx?

Dont know if Laurindsen has passed away?

I have a few photos of it at Glendale Muni in 2009 - see attached. Then one at Buckeye again in 2014.

Has so much engine oil thrown over the front, maybe they did get them turning at some point.

I worked on a PBY about 20 years ago. The oil you're seeing is common when the aircraft is just sitting there, and the wind tends to blow it all over the place

Hans put a number of his aircraft up for sale last year. They were offered as a package only, so that would greatly reduce the interest in them. Haven't heard anything else on them in the last 10 months or so.

Flyboy is right - this is normal on radials unless the owner has added a "clean kit"

The oil slowly gravity feeds down from the tank into the engine, especially when hot, and then leaks, mainly down the valve stems, into the cylinders and then through open valves into the induction and exhaust systems. What drains into the exhaust leaks out the drains and joints and makes one heck of a mess in the bottom of the cowl and on the outside..

A clean kit adds a shutoff to the oil tank and prevents this. Some have an additional small electric scavenge pump as well.
