Bristol Beaufighter Mk. 1 R2065 from No. 219 Squadron. On 30 October
1940, it took off from Redhill Airfield for its nightly patrol but crashed
while landing due to the poor weather's bad visibility. The crash killed
P/O Kenneth Worsdell and gunner Sergeant Eric Gardiner. This flight
was honored with a memorial at the airfield on the 75th anniversary of
the crash.

cap. During the 53 days it participated in the battle, the squadron shot down 29 enemy aircraft, probably destroyed eight,
