RIP Eric 'Winkle' Brown

It is sad that we can't keep these histories alive. We have but snippets of what they have done.
 
Captain Eric Brown was not only exceptionally talented but also blessed. His record of carrier landings would be a mile post if it was in proven aircraft, he was frequently the first person to land a marque and from that report its strong points and faults. I gather from comments here he wasnt everyones "cup of tea" his record speaks for itself. What he did cannot be ascribed to luck, he must have had an extraordinary skill and will to live.
 
Sad news indeed.

What a life this man had and I doubt anyone will ever match his record of flying well over 400 types.

I feel so sad at hearing this news. As if getting slapped in the face by the reality that everything must ultimately become a distant memory.
