Yep, I never worked on it. I was out of airplanes and into space by the time it came along. But when you consider the history of the A-1 Skyraider it is hard to see how we will ever get to the point where we no longer need something like the A-10.

When I went to MBAFB in Oct 1975 to get their A-7D's back in the air they were so eager to get the A-10. The TF-41 engine was causing major problems, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of that was due to the ALC's overhaul approach. In my case the frequent engine removals had led the field to devise a labor saving method of getting the engine out without removing the bleed air ducts, and that was twisting the ducts in an alarming manner. I managed to Okay enough ducts to get the airplanes for which they had engines available back in the air, but that amounted to only about half of the 80 A-7D's they had on hand.
