Sanding sticks etc..

With all them new brands existing today, UMP, Flory, Infini and probably a few more, which would be the best buy, quality wise?
It's about it time that I replaced my old Squadron ones....

Jan, I would say it doesn't matter which one. All of them are the same , just different colours and brand names printed on the sticks. The most important thing is the range of the sandpaper granulation these sticks are of. The thicker grain has to be used for initail sanding while the final touch requires the very fine one.

That's true my friend. Personally , I buy these sticks just there. But I prefer the sandpaper in sheets rather to the sticks although these are very useful.

Same here.
For 'heavy' sanding, I use a variety of jeweller's files, often used in the way of a chisel, very lightly. And for lighter work, I use various grit 'wet and dry', down to 6,000 grit, finishing with wet sanding, and then polish, if needed, with either 'T-Cut' or a micro-fiber cloth, or both.
I do have some various sanding sticks, obtained from Tesco for a few Pence,, but rarely use them.

After doing my P-51 in NMF I realize I need finer grits. My highest number is 800. I've heard auto body shops use finer so I may hit NAPA or Princess Auto for a shufti.

Yep, I get my wet and dry from a local car accessory shop - normally use 1000, 4000 and 6000 grit, very fine.

I got me a set of these a while back I don't use the 12000 grit much as it's as smooth as soft leather and is good for polishing only. The 1500 is quite coarse and I've already worn it out.

Here's My take on a Sanding stick!!
300mm (12") long, 10mm (3/8") thick, 50mm (2") wide plastic.
Scrap piece from a plastixs xhop.
2 different grits and used spray can of contact cement to stickem on.
Nice and flat just for mating surfaces.
Could put one or two on the under side......
