Security issue at Australian airport

This happened a couple of days ago. Americans need to understand that, like almost every other country, guns and users are regulated here. Being a 17 year old he obviously has not developed a brain yet.

EDIT - I had a senior moment when rushing out to an appointment and failed to complete one sentence - it is now complete and in a different font. I made a couple of small additions to clarify what I had said.

And, as is to be expected, the over-reaction has now come. First stage is to do a risk assessment but every airport must have a safety officer who should have started that on day one of their job and repeated it at annually if not more often.

Almost 30 years ago the controllable and zoom-able pole mounted security camera at BOC Freight at MEL could read the name on a security tag over a kilometre from that pole.

No doubt the soon to be mandated security measures will involve far greater costs and manpower than mounting a good camera high above the terminal, or several along the nearby fence line, and monitoring it 24/7. Long distance monitoring of the fence should not be necessary as anyone who enters the perimeter should be located on other cameras long before they reach the tarmac.
