I am new to the forum so please excuse me if I make an error. I'm hoping to find the serial numbers of two aircraft. My uncle was 2LT William C Schiefen. He was KIA on 1Sep1944 in Philippeville, Belgium in a P38 Lightning assigned to the 401FS, 370 FG. I've been to the crash site twice and have recovered pieces from the wreckage, but I'd like to know the serial number.
His younger brother was my father who was also a fighter pilot, 1LT John E Schiefen, 411 FS, 373 FG. He was shot down on 11Apr1945 and bellied into a field, captured by retreating germans, escaped, and returned to his unit several days later. Any way to determine the serial number of the P47?
