I'm afraid there will be no Flying Legends thread from me this year as things just went from bad to worse.

2 months ago, I put my camera in for a deep clean of the sensor, and a check over and asked the shop to remove the damaged polarising filter on the end of my 300 IS lens. Coughed up £54 for the pleasure.
Fast forward to friday just gone when I took my gorgeous wife to her first airshow with me since waaaaay back in tha early eighties. First stop was to buy a replacement polarising filter, fitted it just as a Buchon two ship formation took off. Fr*gg*ing camera wouldn't focus !. Frantic check to make sure the lens wasn't locked or something stupid, and had another try. Still wouldn't focus !. Swapped filters from the standard lens...by which time 3 Spit's had taken off for a practice, and got the same result !. Grrrrr. I took the filter off and that helped a little bit but the end results were still not focused properly and the colors were were quite simply cr*p

Right, so there I am at the premier European Warbird airshow and my main lens has gone t*ts up. Don't know what the shop did but its too late to take it back and complain. Ok, so I'm resigned to the fact I've got to use the standard camera lens for the weekend, when I come across my next problem. I don't know what I've done but all the camera settings seem to have gone totally haywire producing some god-awfull pics that I'd hesitate to even put up a my usual bloopers. I reset the ASA, checked I'd got a reasonable F stop and looked at my normal settings and each time I altered anything, the pics just got worse and worse.

In the end I resulted to letting the camera do eveything on automatic and put a tele-converter on to try and bring the planes a bit closer than the obligatory speck on the horizon pics I'd managed to take upto this point.

So that was Friday arrivals day at Legends.

Saturday was just 'plane' useless !. Even the flightline shots where pretty damn abysmal. Over exposed, under exposed, grainy, cr*p quality and that was all on full auto. I have put a few heavily 'modded' pics on one of my facebook albums, but 9 piccies from a weekend at an aisrhow, is just not on !!

I normally take around 5000 plus pics at Legends over three days. This year I took less than 400 !. And then got a voice message that ended up in us leaving at just after 16:00 to drive back home.

I am soo p*ssed with the camera, its been consigned to the bottom of the computer table and I am not taking it with me on this friday when I fly Stateside. I'm going into town later today to buy a Fuji point and shoot to record my Collings Foundation Tour adventures on, so please don't shout when I take pics of planes with frozen props in the air and such like (at least you'll be able to what the plane is I'm taking a picture of !and it'll be in correct full color !)

Ho hum...any-one want to buy a used Canon with a set of lenses, good condition and one carefull owner :)....I don't think so !

And the highlight of the weekend, was a quick chat with Mr Warbird God, Steve H and his son Steve about my '51 project. Got them both to sign one of the pics in my build folder and then had a group photo taken. Those guys are quite simply, bl**dy great !

Real shame about the pics Gary, but hope you could still enjoy the displays.

(Have to say the Corsair and P-47/B-17 shots look ok to me)

Tthanks chaps. Quick update, have decided against throwing the thing against the wall as had an idea about a 'factory' reset. Have been on line and followed the instructions so it should now be setup as if it'd just come out of the box (didn't know it was possible to do this !!) and will have a play later if I get the time. In the meantime, I've brought the little Fuji I was talking about, got it home, took it out of the box to put the battery in...and theres a bl**dy great scratch right across the front of the camera body FFS !!. Yet another trip back into town to get it replaced !. GRRRrrrr

With all in hoping the camera / lens problem gets sorted Gary. Sounds like the service engineer has ****ed up things, so I think I'd be trolling back there and saying "Hey Dimbledick, sort this out!".
