Hi all.

Recentry, I has an interest in Spitfire over Burma. I'd like to know about this forgotten theatre.
So,I wanna buy Japanese or English books for this theatre.
If you have any advice for me, please tell me.

P.S.
My English isn't so good so feel free to ask me if there is anything unclear.

If you go on this web site there are lots of good books that you can download for free.

I reflexively recommend the tomes of Christopher Shores whenever the situation arises.

I think you will really find this useful, UnderPressure:

Long time no see!
I just finished reading 'Bloody shambles' and some other books, ex.梅本弘「ビルマ航空戦」(Hiroshi Umemoto 「Burma kōkūsen」)and 「第二次大戦の隼のエース」(「Dainiji taisen no Hayabusa no Ace」).
And I was able to count each other's losses from these.
Battle between Spitfire and Oscar ranged from November 1943 to April 1945.

A shot down date list is below.
If nothing is written next to date, it means one aircraft was shot down.
'crash landed' means Aircraft that hit and crashed due to enemy attack. I could not prove that aircraft wasn't lost. However, I believe that most of it have been lost.
As you can imagine, my list is incomplete for various reasons, perhaps forever.

Losses of Spitfire Mk.V by Ki-43-II
22-Nov-1943
26-Dec 1 Mk.V lost, 1 ground looped.
15-Jan-1944 1 mkV lost, 1 crash landed
20-Jan 2 mkVs lost
5-Feb
9-Feb
29-Apr
17-Jun

Total
11 Spitfire Vs destroyed, 2 crash landed.

Losses of Ki-43 by SpitfireV
26-Dec-1943 1 crash landed
31-Dec
15-Jan-1944 5 Ki-43-IIs lost
20-Jan 1 crash landed

Ki-43 losses (by Spitfire or Hurricane)
9-Feb-1944 2 ki-43-IIs lost
15-Feb

Total
6 ki-43-IIs were shot down, 2 crash landed, 3 by Spitfire or Hurricanes.

Loss of Spitfire Mk.VIII (by Ki-43)
15-Feb-1944 1 Mk.VIII lost, 1 destroyed after force landing.
13-Mar (shot down, just taking off)
17-Mar 2 Mk.VIIIs lost
29-Apr
5-Nov
11-Dec
24-Apr-1945

Ki-43 or Ki-44 Mk.VIII scores
18-May-1944 1 loss 1 force landed

Total
RAF lost 8 SpitfireVIIIs, 1 were destroyed after force landing. 1 loss and 1 crash landed due to Ki-43 or Ki-44.

Losses of Ki-43 by Mk.VIII
13-Feb-1944
13-Mar 1 Ki-43 lost, 1 crash landed
15-Mar
16-Mar 1 crash landed
17-Mar
17-Apr
25-Apr
6-May
11-May 2 Ki-43s lost
14-May
25-May
29-May 1 crash landed
17-Jun 6 Ki-43s lost
5-Nov
9-Jan-1945 3 Ki-43s lost, 1 crash landed
21-Jan 1 crash landed
20-Apr
24-Apr

Total
losses:23
crash landed:5

Considering the aircraft that was shot down and the crash landing aircraft by enemy attack, SpitfireV's combat loss exchange ratio against Ki-43-IIs is 0.61:1. However, Spitfire shot down at least 2 Ki-46s, 5 Ki-21s, and 2 Ki-48s with 1 loss.
Total combat loss exchange ratio is 1.21:1.

And The result of the battle of Mk.VIII vs Ki-43 in Burma theatre (without 18-May-1944. Because I don't know which aircraft shot down spitfire that day) is:
RAF lost only 9 Spitfire Mk.VIIIs by Oscars, But, IJAAF lost 28 Ki-43s by Spitfires.
They had combat loss exchange ratio against Ki-43 of 3.11:1.
Total combat loss exchange ratio is 3.18:1, because of VIIIs had shot down 1 Ki-84, 6 Ki-46s.

I think Spitfire VIII has really good rate.

Of course this is not a proof of superiority. But I thought it would be a important factor to think about this theatre.

It all sounds about right to me, the RAAF Spitfire Vc (Trop) had a hard time against the A6M3, the Spitfire VIII was a much better fighter.
