I'm working on a project that is the epilogue for a much larger project.
What I'm looking for is pictures of WW2 aircraft nicknamed "Swamp Angel."
I have discovered about a dozen aircraft with this nickname but not all have pictures.
My hope would be to get permission to use the picture in my project, or to purchase the photo(s) for my own collection and use in the project.

Any help, assistance, or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you. i saw that and found others on the website. I'm trying to get permission to publish but haven't heard back yet. I one of a B-24 in the mail today and another for a P-51 early last week. I'm finding them but without reprint publishing permission I can't use them.
I'm hoping to find someone who is willing to give permission or sell the photo to me. I'm also hoping to find out about other aircraft. I have about a dozen right now. Thanks again. i really do appreciate the link.

There were four B-24 "Swamp Angels" but the link above shows that there is a photo of 499. To be fair, the book is almost 30yrs old and new info is always coming up

I knew about 42-100352 and 44-40499, but the other two are new to me. Thank you. I now have more to go on.
I have mention of a Swamp Angel aircraft in the 43rd Bomb Group (B-24J) and another one in the 12th Bomber Group (B-25H), but I haven't found any solid proof. The search continues. BTW, what is the source of this information so I can cite it?

There are two Martin B-26 aircraft that I know of carrying the nose name "Swamp Angel".
41-17890 of the 17th BG / 34th BS.
42-96100 of the 386th BG / 555th BS, coded YA-O.
I will have to look and see if there are any photographs in my collection of these two. My initial search didn't show anything, but there are a lot of photos that are not catalogued yet. If I find any, I'll post them up.

I have both of those on my list, but I have only seen a photo of 42-96100. I have practically nothing about 41-17890 except the serial number and a pilot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll speak with my father and see if he knows the tail number. Of the pics that I have, I can't identify a tail number. But I'm fairly certain I can find it for you.

356th fighter group
361st fighter squadron

Stationed at Little Walden airfield in Essex (I think)

1stLt James A Bowers. Born 3/4/1922 in South Carolina. Lived in Shelby, NC then Louisburg, NC for most of his life.

Shot down 1x ME-109 on 11/28/1944 in Osnabrück-Dummer Lake area

Shot down 2x FW-190 on 2/17/1945 south of Chemnitz, Germany

-I have the combat reports from both of these incidents. I don't mind sharing.

-He sadly passed on 1/3/1986

-I've been trying to decorate a man cave of mine with a bunch of stuff about him and I don't mind helping you out at all.

This is great!!!
I'm excited to learn more. Maybe your dad knows why "Swamp Angel"?
I would be very interested to learn more about the two incidents.
I'm sure the reports indicate the tail numbers for those aircraft too.
Do you know if he was ever a POW or if he evaded capture?
I know, too many questions.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Feel free to send me a private message.

1stLt James A Bowers ... 356th Fighter Group, 360th Fighter Squadron. A note though .. the FS number could be a confusion and should be the 361 but not the 360.
The P-51D-15-NA assigned to the 361FS, 356FG, 8AF USAAF. The serial 44-15290. Later named Li'l Joe , coded QI-V.

the info source: 44-15290 | American Air Museum
Thank you. I appreciate this information. I found the website and see why I didn't find him. Now I'm struggling to confirm his service number because there are conflicting numbers on Fold3.com. Thanks
