A book on the Mossie I was recently reading (and apologies, I've forgotten which one) briefly mentions that in 1935, De Havilland proposed a military version of the DH 88 Comet in a letter to the Air Ministry. The AM showed no interest and no further details were available.
The histories of the Mossie don't say that it was a direct development of the DH88 and that's not surprising considering the vast differences between the two, so it seems to be quite different to any proposal to do with the DH88. In fact the value of a military DH88 is hard to see unless it could be made dramatically faster and even then it would seem to small and fragile for anything but recce.
So does anyone have any info on what De Havilland actually proposed to the Air Ministry in 1935?
