Italian design must have used a different rear drive shaft arrangement. Otherwise there would have been a patent infringement lawsuit.
 
The problem of patent is described on the blog as italians filed first patent, # 342987, on June, 22 1935.
We don't know if existed a specifical owner project for shaft gear only.
