Ok chaps... here's a question for you.

If you could travel back in time to either the 1930's, 1940's. 1950's. 1960's or 1970's OR take a chance and move forward 3 decades which would you choose to do? Bearing in mind that this is a permanent move and as you are now.

I think I would gamble on the 30 year advance in the hope that medicine had advanced enough to cure most ills.

    Over to you....

Go back to the 30's and become the world's foremost futurist. And amass the best aircraft collection ever with the money I will make...hopefully.

Yep, I'd certainly go back 30 years. Lots of missed opportunities to capitalize on.

No telling what shape the world will be in 30 years from now, but at the rate we're going, it's going to be a total cesspool...

Yup, got to agree, Big Brother is getting more and more invasive, cameras on every building and corner, NSA monitoring of everything electronic, invisible spy programs for computers and phones that can't be uninstalled, drones in the air. Back to the 60's and Apple stock less than a $1 a share

Yep, anyone doubts the current path we're all headed down, I strongly suggest they read George Orwell's nineteen eighty four (first published in 1949)...

    Back to the sixties.

I also know all the Derby and Grand National winners, including Foinavon (1967 at 100/1). I could give the Great Train Robbers some helpful advice. I might be able to do something with that chemistry degree. The opportunities are endless, I might even do something legal !

    Cheers

I'd LOVE to go back to the 40's. Maybe the tail end of the war where I may be a little safer if I joined lol. Maybe even become a pilot! Who knows?:walk:

20's/30's. At the age I am now I'd have the chance to find myself at the controls of a Spit...yes please :)

But right now I want to go to the bloomin 1100's and ask the Normans why they have to be so confusing to study

nah...i would go back and relive the exact same years i just did....from the mid 50s to present. with what i know i would (hopefully) make better decisions...certainly make a hell of a lot more money...take some opportunities i pushed aside or never considered at that time....but mostly i would get to spend time again with some of the people i loved the most. that alone would make it worth it to me...

In case the place is fixed, then, please, in the 70s. Good living standard, cheap real estate fuel, AIDS is not 'invented' yet :)
If I can alter the place, then USA in the 1940s. Sooo many flying hardware around, and well away from war.

BTW, Bobby - you've really moved to Belize?

not yet....got land and am going to retire there. we go there every year or every other year...but i pay them taxes so i figure i can fly the flag...lol

oh if i could jump around and alter ( but i dont want to hijack this tread ) i would go to the old days here in the us were there was no FAA...and you could barnstorm to your hearts content....and get to fly a hi-performance fighter at the age of 19 to 22.

Why not just go back to 1066 and help King Harold kick the Normans' ass? That would have certainly simplified things

Our lecturer has introduced more historiography, which makes everything confusing. Were the normans really bad guys? Was the administration of England changed when the Normans invaded? Did Harold really have a right to the throne? And associated, rather dull questions. I much preferred it when I did archaeology modules, at least they had proof in artifacts rather than relying on what some Norman chap wrote about 900 years ago to please his boss!

I digress, sorry to distract from the threads original aim. I'm tired, and panicking that I'll get a 2.2

I'd go back to 1974 and change some things for myself.

It would be back to the seventies for me. Make some corrections and get into aviation sooner.

    1. Yes they were (viz Harrying of the North and the world's worst hairstyle).
2.Yes it was, though they used the original until they had their own ideas.
3.Yes Harold did. There was no 'right' to the throne except being chosen by the Witangemot. It was not for him to promise it away either. Thus Edgar II did succeed him and Wilhelm le Batard was also legitimate (as a King and as an acknowledged bastard) as he was also chosen (with a large Norman army outside the door!)

Ask your lecturer about where the Normans got their legal framework from. I go with them borrowing it from their mates in Sicily who kept the Mahgrebi Muslim legal code Sicily used before the Normans half inched it from the North Africans. Thus English Common Law is a locally evolved variant of one of the 5 Mahgrebi schools of Sharia Law.

Not that I want to cause you trouble...........

I want to go back in time.

Until I fall ill. Then I want to change my mind. Fast.
