Hi, I am a new member on this forum. I am interested in the Pacific War and would like information on the air war in the CBI area.

On December 8, 1943, Japanese planes bombed Tinsukia in Northern India. I have found very little information about this attack.
What unit(s) carried out the attack?
What kind of destruction did it cause?
Were there any Allied planes to repel the attackers?
Did either side lose any planes?

On 19 Dec, Japanese bombers (Ki-48´s ?) attacked Yunnani Airdrome with fighter escort. Japanese fighter pilots claim ten victories losing two of their own.
Can anybody tell morea about this?
The actual score?

Thanks

Markku

Hi
A good source for information on the air war in the CBI is 'Air War for Burma' - The Third and Concluding Volume of the Bloody Shambles Series, by Christopher Shores, Grub Street 2005. For the 19 December 1943 there is this information:

There is nothing in the book for the 8 December 1943, however, your description is similar to the 13 December attack on Dinjan (Tinsukia):

If you are interested in this theatre this is one of the books that is very useful.

Hi,

I found a mention of the December 8, 1943 attack on Tinsukia in the US Army Chronology hxxps://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/USA-SS-Chronology/USA-SS-Chronology-3.html. It does not mention any actual bombing, just an attack.

I have not found any further information on this attack. Since Shores does not mention it in his book either, and in connection with the December 13 air raid it is mentioned that the Japanese had carried out several fake attacks before that, I now believe that the December 8 attack was such a deception.
