Trying to confirm colors for Richard Bong's P-38

I don't have a photo of the tail of Richard Bong's P-38J "Marge". One source says that the tips of the horizontal stabilizers are painted red, and the other says they were natural metal finish. All sources indicate that the top and bottom tips of the vertical stabilizers were red, but I'm not sure what to do about the horizontal stabilizers. Any info or pictures would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help. Richard Bong spent most of his time with the 9th Fighter Squadron, 49th Fighter Group at Darwin Australia and Port Moresby from 1943-45. This was in the 5th Air Force commanded by Gen. George Kenney.
