hi all

U-867
ok I joined because this is supposed to be a photo of the U-Boat that my 5th cousin's husband was commanding Arved Jakob von Muhlendahl see U-867

I was trying to find out the source of this photo to make sure that it was correct. I have already added it to his wikitree profile see Arved Jakob von Muhlendahl (1904-1944) | WikiTree FREE Family Tree

And on a closer topic to WW2 Aircraft I did a profile for Franz Stigler see Ludwig Franz Stigler (1915-2008) | WikiTree FREE Family Tree

I don't know how old this site is but it has in its sale, a lot of 10 photos claiming to be of U-867. It contains the same photo as the one in your link...https://uboot-recherche.de/en/u867-bilder

Some info on Stigler not included in the above link

Thank you for that, most of the information I got was from the book A Higher call by

Adam Makos and

Larry Alexander

I knew about the fraudulent claims in the book Franz does explain how that happened and if the book is true, then Franz was caught up in a situation he had no control over and did not put in any fraudulent claims himself, and the 17 times he was shot down, I did not put that in either, although that is mentioned in one of the links I put in for his profile and I did not put every major fight he was in. or crashes. I talked online to one of his grandsons, to ask if his family had any objections to the profile I had made, Franz's daughter is apparently not all that keen about the fame her father now has. I re checked the sources for his birth place as I have Regensburg Bavaria rather than Dresden, when he left Germany for Canada he definitely stated that he was born in Regensburg not Dresden. In the book A Higher Call they also have Regensburg as his birth place.

Thank you for that as well, will check it out, it may be impossible to prove if that photo is U-867, update I had a quick look err 300 euros for one photo and with what I think there is no guarantee that it is the right submarine update update the photos come from the German Submarine Museum sorry about the large writing it came with copy and paste and at least a museum looks much more official than a site just selling photos.

Thanks for your help, i probably won't stick around here although besides the U boat captain, his wife had two English "cousins" that were WW2 pilots, that were killed. John Gwatkin Steel, Flight Lieut. RAF, he had to fly in the terrible Brewster Buffaloes he got killed 24 July 1945, and the other was Air Commodore Desmond Herlouin de Burgh, RAF he was attached to CAS Dept, Air Ministry, and killed in a flying accident in South Africa. 18 January 1943, I am still trying to work out what he was doing in South Africa, so far away from the theater of war, probably something secret. One of my other German "cousins" that got killed during WW2, had an English 1st Cousin (also my "cousin" ) that was a little older than him and got killed during WW1. Fun times at a family reunion I think.
