Truffle Pig
Airman
The part pictured was used as a suitcase latch around 1946. The corresponding case is made of aircraft aluminum (3116.5) and with aircraft rivets. A later suitcase model by the same manufacturer already has quite normal suitcase latches.
I would now like to know what this particular latch was used for and at what point in the aircraft. And if it can be assigned to a special manufacturer.
Here the counterpart in open state and the material specification. which identifies it as German aircraft aluminum before 1945.
It becomes clear that this mechanism is not very practical for a case, as you need a screwdriver to open it.
Overall, a nice example of the use of aircraft technology - but with clear overkill.
