So don't they know what they sell? It sounds fishy.

Anyway the first emblem with the seahorses reminds me the one of the 2./Aufkl.Gr 125 (See) or the 4.Bordfl.Erg Staffel. But the background of the shield shoud be of a light blue paint. Also the similar one was used by the Stab Kustenfliegergruppe 706. In the case the background colour should be of the Light Green.

Actually I doubt as I didn't see any of the badges on the Fw 200. The kind of emblem was applied on the front of a fuselage and didn't contain any inscription suggesting the aircraft type rather. It is quite difficult to estimate the size of the shields looking at the images. But the shape of them may suggest the Arado Ar 196 or other Luftwaffe Dornier or Blohm & Voss flying boats.

If they knew it would have been in the lot description, then obviously I wouldn't be reaching out to the forum members who have an interest
yes sellers or so interested in accurate history . Neh they aint stupid, but letting it in the middle will enhance value. Because it could...even more so if dropped on multiple respected sites. Like this one. Any reaction of a respectable site is more dollah..
No offense, been there, seen that.

Hello Mike
Thank you for the recommendation, looks like it's been reprinted and expanded, out of stock here in Blighty but im persevering
Hello
Hello Wurger
The 'Fw 200 ' is not part of the original painting but more likely written on later ,presumably by the person who cut it off

The 30x40cm is not too much for the Fw 200 that was quite large plane rather. However it can't be excluded.

The aircraft operated by 2./Aufkl.Gr 125 were mostly Arado Ar196 floatplanes.

I have seen a reference to a Bv138 at one point, but that may have been a hold over during the restructuring of the Gruppes.

The emblem would have been on the cowling between the engine cover and cockpit, which was not a large area.

Emblems on the Fw200s were much larger.

The height of the emblem is approx. 1'-6" (458mm) as per this drawing (my comparison done with AutoCAD):
The OP did mention that the insignia's dimensions were 40cm x 30cm, which is about 15-3/4" x 11-3/4".

Very close approximation, especially considering that they were hand painted and their dimensions could vary slightly between aircraft.

Wow Catch 22 you are on fire !
Thank you posting the pictures really adds to the story

Mike ,Found a copy of that book on ebay and it's on the way ,thanks for the suggestion

You and me both !
Time and circumstances have led me back to this interesting. Hobbies.

I remember as a kid my father who was in the RAF used to take me on a Sunday afternoon and sneak us in a hanger down at RAF St Athen ,had alsorts of foreign aircraft from the war Diana ,two seat FW190 Heinkel jet , He111 ,something ect ect and I think there was an Arado in there
