I don't suppose anybody knows offhand how many hours a US naval pilot Had when they completed basic flight training, And then how many hours they got in advanced flight training, And how many hours in total they might be expected to have by the time they were assigned to a combat unit.
Pre war and after the war started assuming there are different values?
Same for US army pilots?
My understanding is that pilots went through basic flight training and then they were sent to an operational conversion unit, Basically a unit that had whatever kind of air plane they would be flying whether that was a fighter plane or a dive bomber torpedo bomber or whatever then they would spend some time with them and then they would be transferred to an actual combat unit where they may or may not have been flying the same Exact aircraft but certainly the same type of aircraft?
