XC-142A Operational Suitability Testing (1965)
This film documents various tests of the LTV XC-142A aircraft. Dallas-based Ling-Temco-Vought Aerospace Corporation, along with Hiller Aircraft and Ryan Aeronautical, designed, built, and tested the model for the US Department of Defense in 1962-63. The aircraft had an experimental tilt-wing design which allowed for vertical take off and landing as well as substantial hover capabilities. Colonel Jesse Jacobs presents the testing procedures, which included sea and land demonstrations, assault landings, container drop tests, paratrooper launches and rescue demonstrations. Most testing occurred at Edwards Air Force Base and off the shores of California.
