There is a good book "Those Wonderful Women In Their Flying Machines" dedicated to the WASPS, even mentions taking their boyfriends for rides in the B-17 and observing the Texas countryside whilst engaged in trysts on the bombardiers couch.

My Aunt Patricia was a "WR" in the Marine Corps during WWII - which was the equivalent of a Navy "WAVE".
