The 229 was going to be powered by a Jumo 004 engine (like the 262) which might not have been the best choice, whereas the E.583 and the P 215 were going to be powered by the superior Heinkel HeS 011 and the P.13a by a coal-powered ramjet IIRC, I know the Germans were still going to lose the war but would any other designs have been better than the 229?
Would any other designs like the Arado E.583, the Blohm & Voss P 215 or the Lippisch P.13a have been better than the Horten Ho 229?

The small issue with this is that the Hes -011 (and i love the Luft46 aspect) wasn't ready by war's end (may45).
It didn't delivered the promised power and wasn't ready for mass production, this is the issue the british had with the derwent. it was "back-court shack manually produced", it's only when WW2 ended and R&R stopped the production of the V's and R&R was able to concentrate on the new tech that the production numbers went up.
There was a lot of promising projects, the ta-183, ju-128, ,gotha p60 and me-1112. this last one was maybe the most promising of the them all, (invite you to check the following page: https://mep1112.de/ )
The p.215 was a heavy nightfighter, very large, very big and very beautiful...(oops, i shouldn't have said that, will put my orange wig on the side

And no, i do not put the p.1101 in the list, it was more like a research airframe than something capable to evolve into a low-cost fighter...and the funny part it ended it's life as a research airframe.
