I have several photographs taken by a WWII Army photographer of a crashed airplane. The serial number on the tail is 224317. Am wondering where I might find information as to where this crash occurred. Please note--I know nothing about aircraft--military or otherwise. I'm just trying to figure out the story on this photo. Thank you in advance for any insight that you might be able to provide.

Welcome to the site.

IMHO that's the Douglas C-47A-55-DL sn. 42-24317 cn. 10179 delivered on 2nd September 1943 and crashed on the 14th September 1944. The accident occurred at near Warrensburg-Sedalia AAF, MO (SZL) (United States of America) while on approach. Narrative: A nine ship formation of Douglas C-47 transport planes had taken off from Sedalia AAF on a return training flight to Vichy AAF. The V-formation was approaching Sedalia after completing the training mission when the elements of the formation peeled off one after the other for a final approach and landing at Sedalia. The airframe was written off.

That would make perfect sense--the person from whom this collection came was stationed at Warrensburg-Sedalia in April 1944. I can't thank you enough! You're a wizard! ;)
