This is a standard AM cockpit clock but it was removed from an aircraft in either Kenya or Tanzania by my father. My resarch says only Hurricans and Blenhiems made it to this part of the world presumably for the war in Abbysinia. Hand painted 4077/38 on the dial so think it is 1938 and the mark is 6A/579. Anyone any more ideas or information?

Welcome to the site.

Judging by the dial data it is the Air Ministry (AM) Ref. No. 6A/579, S. Smith & Sons (MA) Ltd London 8 Day Mk.II cockpit clock. The "L 9/38" is the date the clock entered RAF service. So it's the September 1938. The serial number 4071/38 also indicates the year. The possible aircraft that could use the clock in the diagram below. I would add the early Hurricane and the Gloster Gladiator to the list.
