That's an excellent resource, previously only available in hard copy for those lucky enough to have it. (I got mine from the late Richard S. Hill, a naval aviator and sometime historian.) However, beware: some of the data remains iffy such as Wasp CV-7 showing TBDs aboard in August 42. Unfortunately the files are not searchable.

It's interesting but loaded with errors, and often doesn't match the the ship's own action reports.

How are we sure that the action reports are more accurate? Not trying to debate this, only wondering why you regard one set of source documents as more correct than another. Both I assume are official US Navy documents.

Reports made on the spot and signed by the ships officers have to be more accurate than a weekly summary prepared thousands of miles away.

That may be true in some cases but not all. Nobody's infallible and typos occur all the time at all levels (anyone who has served in the military knows this to be true).
