FAIREY FIREFLY 08-05-1938 Sunday , Gardenparty

Interesting image of an interesting aircraft, the Firefly II as it was named, was the loser to the Hawker Hornet during trials in April 1929 for the next RAF day fighter. The Hornet went into production as the Hawker Fury. Fairey's Firefly II did not enter service with the RAF, although the Fleet Air Arm evaluated one, but it lost to the Hawker Nimrod, a navalised Fury. The Firefly II was put into production in Belgium by Avions Fairey; its designer was of course Belgian Marcel Lobelle, who had an eye for good looking aircraft. Based on the toned down markings and the faintly visible serial under the wing, this is probably a Belgian Firefly, as these received simple Y- and two digit serials, which were worn under their wings. The Belgian Fireflies were retired/disposed of in May 1940 with the German invasion.

Dornier Do P CH-302 was a German four-engined heavy bomber, manufactured by Dornier Flugzeugwerke in the 1930s. It was built as part of the secret rearmament of Germany, in opposition to the Treaty of Versailles
