OOB

This will be a straight OOB build. But the box contains photo etch and requires some surgery to the landing gear doors and the canopy. Also there is a lot of flash on the parts.
I will not use the color scheme from the instructions, which are wrong.

Cockpit:
Drilled hole in floor, cut off joystick handle from stick. Drilled hole in base of handle. Inserted wire. Applied photo etch side frames.
Painted interior Model Master zinc chromate green which isn't as yellow as USAAF interior green.

I'm definitely enjoying this build so far. And, yes, the unusual subject matter is what makes it interesting. The fact that it literally fell into my hands is truly remarkable.
God, I love my local model store!
In the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro there are several hobby stores that sell models. Michael's is the worst for selection, followed by Hobby Lobby. Hub Hobby has two locations, but plastic models are a tiny fraction of shelf space. Scale Model Supply devotes half their space to trains, half to models, and another half to everything else.

Ok. With the deadline looming, I finally decided to confront my PE phobia.
I cut out the cockpit details, promptly glued one piece upside down. Broke the seat. Seat belts in place, throttle quadrant installed. Crank for landing gear installed. Taking a break before assembling intrument panel.
