Shown here is is one of four Lancaster B.Mk.I/IIIs of No.617 Squadron dropping a Boom patrol Boat.
They took off from Woodhal Spa on 17 January 1945 to take part in Operation Skyhook, each dropping a Boom Patrol Boat off the harbour at Teignmouth, Devon, from a height of 2,000 ft.
The four landed within a radius of 100 yds, a result which the Navy described as "vert good indeed"; the boats then started their engines and proceeded to the pier, two of the aircraft returned to Woodhall Spa to load two more boats for a further-drop, the other two proceeding to Exeter to have the boat apparatus removed.
