depicted here is the actual attack on the Mohne Dam by Lancaster ED906/G piloted by Flight Lieutenant D J H Maltby. While the reflection of the spotlights on the water indicated the correct height of sixty feet, the cylindrical bomb, revolving backwards, was released during the run-in. While Maltby approached the critical part of this operation, other Lancasters of No.617 Sqn circled around in an attempt to draw off enemy AA fire.
