A painting of P-51B Mustangs of the 4th Fighter Group, Eighhth Army Air Force, flown by Captain Don S Gentile of Piqua, Ohio, who was credited with the destruction of 23 enemy aircraft in air combat and 10 by ground attack, and Lt (later Major) John T Godfrey who was credited with 18 enemy aircraft destroyed.
One of a series of paintings done for the Harleyford books as jacket illustrations in the late 1950's / early 1960's, this one being for the book 'United States Army and Air Force Fighters, 1916 to 1961'.
At the time, these were 'the cream' of aviation books, and quite expensive back then, at an average of 60 Shillings (£3) in the early 1960's., around £62 in 2017 !!
