HANDLEY PAGE HEYFORD - The HANDLEY PAGE HP.50 HEYFORD heavy bomber biplane was designed by G R Volkert to meet Specification B.I9/27and the prototype (HP.38) first flew on June 12, 1930. The RAF acquired 15 Handley Page Heyford Is, 23 Handley Page Heyford lAs, 16 Handley Page Heyford IIs and 70 Handley Page Heyford Ills. About 30 remained in 1939, all Mk Ills with 695 hp Kestrel VI engines. They were used for a year or so at Nos 3 and 4 Air Observer Schools and No 4 Bombing and Gunnery School.
