Hawker Hurricane Mk.IVD

Shown here is Hurricane Mk.IVD (KZ193) tank-buster (note 40 mm Vickers Type 'S' guns) flying near the Staines reservoirs on 11th August, 1943. Visible behind the port wing is the original Heathrow aerodrome. At one time this aircraft was temporarily converted to a Mk.V by fitting a merlin 32 engine driving a four-blade propeller for performance trial at Brooklands and Boscombe Down. She was later returned to standard Mk.IV status and issued to No.164 Sqd, based at Warmwell and used for anti-shipping strikes. Taken from The Royal Air Force of World War Two in Colour.
