In the spring of 1943 the Luftwaffe decided to emulate the Soviet tactic of night harassment raids by slow moving biplanes, and decided that the He.50A was one of the obsolescent types that could be used in this role. The 24 surviving He.50As were gathered together from various schools and used to equip two Estonian-manned Staffeln (squadrons) of Nachtschlachtgruppe 11 between December 1943 and September 1944, when the aircraft were retired for lack of spares.
