Shown here are artillerymen of a Scottish Yeomanry regiment at gun drill with their 152 mm (6 in 26 cwt) BL Mk.I Howitzers in 1942. This ritual was the easiest and quickest way to get the rammer back to the gun Number One so that the Numbers Five and Six (standing in the trail) could get it out of the way, and remove the loading tray from the cradle.
