Good picture. That is a DB605A engine on a makeshift wooden sled being moved with wood rollers and manpower, not easy as it weights 750kg. You can see another one on a sled is already in the cargo hold. It is unusual that the engines are being moved on simple sleds. The German procedure was very strict on using the official wooden packing crates, with engine mounting frames, and the engines were never normally placed on the cam covers as seen here, except in exceptional circumstances, due to possible damage. I think this is possibly recovery from N.Africa of unservicable engines. The lack of correct crates could be simply due to non-availability, or possibly weight/space in the Gigant, the crates virtually doubled the floor space of an engine and added approx 150kg weight per engine which would be important to the aircraft capability and, the fact that the crated engines would be very difficult to move by manpower.
