ORP Orzeł in Great Britain, 1940

This is one of the last pictures of the submarine.
ARTESH ARTESH .. .."Orzeł" in the English is "Eagle". She survived the Polish Campaign in 1939. Being damaged and with ill commander came to the Tallinn harbour in neutral Estonia on the 14 September 1939. She was interned illegally by the Estonians so the crew being comanding by new commander Lt. Grudziński escaped using the unarmed in a half submarine without any map. They managed to leave the Baltic sea and broke through the heavily guarded by Germans Danish Straits heading the Great Britain that was reached in October 1939. She was assigned to the Royal Navy's 2nd Submarine Flotilla and started patrol missions at the North Sea. Unfortunately she was lost under unknown circumstances in 1940. the 8th June 1940 was officially accepted as the day of her loss. The WW2 survived her twin ORP Sęp ( Vulture ) that was interned in Sweden and returned Poland in October 1945. She was servicing in the Polish Navy until 1969. In 1958 she was starring in a movie titled "Orzeł" pretending her more famous twin the ORP Orzeł. In 1971/1972 she was scrapped.
