The PZL P-39 was designed by Ing.Zbyslaw Ciolkosz in 1935. It was planned as a light and cheap fighter of low altitudes. The PZL P-39 Project was based on the domestic G-770SS Mors engine. The prototype was obsolete in design features and way behind foreign fighter design of the planes which were already introduced into service. Moreover it was not suitable to night and winter time activities (probably because of unreliability of landing gear mechanism during take-off on snowy airfields).
