The Savoia Marchetti SM.74 was the first four-engined Italian airliner. Only three planes were built (I-URBE, I-ROMA, I-ALPE), and they served from 1936 with Ala Littoria; distinguished by comfort and luxury, these planes were fast, safe and sturdy. After June 1940 the Regia Aeronautica incorporated all the civil aircraft.
The SM.74, carrying more than 5,000 kg of material, revealed itself as the best Italian (operative) cargo aircraft.
