In this pic the Maiella mountains provide an imposing backdrop to this Stuart tank belonging to HQ Squadron, 44th RTR (Royal Tank Regiment), 4th Armoured Brigade. The brigade saw considerable action in the early days of the Italian campaign but was withdrawn in late January 1944 to take part in Operation Overlord (IWM: NA9160).
