The mountain "jump" was really a parapente, with canopy already deployed, on the ground behind you. Then push off, ski like crazy towards the decent edge, and then you're airborne. From memory, I was under canopy for around 8 or 9 minutes, curving round the valleys between the peaks, until...
Don't know what it is, but I don't think it's exhaust associated, although may be if that's asbestos between the pieces.
Looks more like some sort of frame connecting piece.
Hopefully someone here may be able to help, and some dimensions would be useful.
Oh, that's not my work, it's the photo on the packaging !
I used to be fairly good at figure painting in 1/35th and 1/32nd scales, and acceptable in 1/48th scale (for facial features, insignia etc), so I just hope my knackered hands won't let me down this time around !
Arrived today, direct from Gaso.Line in France - very good service with prompt delivery.
A 1/48th scale set of Panzer crewmen for the Panther diorama.
It's not that clear in the photo, due to the polythene packaging, but each figure is beautifully moulded, with clear and crisp detail. Radio...

Another 0 Gauge buildings kit has also arrived, to be converted onto a Normandy village cafe and shop, bakers, or...
I got my POPs patch a couple of years before leaving the display team I used to manage, due to (young) family commitments. Last time I was under canopy was when I skied off a mountain side in the French alps, thirty years ago - great fun, but no freefall "rush".
Nowadays, I'd more than...
Nice one. Brings back memories of military jumping in the 1970s, and then skydiving later, in the mid 1980s and early 90s.
Wish I was fit enough to still do it, but disability won't allow !
Ah, sorry !
I saw the video on BBC News, where the same phrase was used. Pretty bloody poor for an "official" of the ATSB to use such a description then !
Canopy was already deploying before he fully exited the door, and nowhere near the tail-plane or any form of "wing flap" (darned journalists !).
Either the handle was caught on a protrusion on the door frame (unlikely, as there shouldn't be any or, if there was, it would be taped over to...
