bolt head was a small airfield, mainly single engined a/c
in 1942 it was spitfires & typhoons
these were mainly escort missions and defence against the ' tip and run' raids by the luftwaffe
only twin i know of that operated from there was the whirlwind but that was in 1943...

it would be difficult to operate
as i understand it the hangars and lifts were sized for russian built aircraft
and all machinery was set up for russian use

yep try the NA at kew,
to help your search they are referred to as station record books ( srb ) not orb
but if the station was small there will be no record book

It might be worth researching the local county police war diaries, usually held in the county record office
or the civil defence war diaries, ( used to be in the taunton record office )
Or 67MU records at the NA kew, ( they were the south west recovery unit )...

the first photo shows the personnel with a GP 500lb bomb
i think the usual whirlwind bomb load was 2 x 250lb bombs
so maybe the starkey load was 2 x 500lb bombs
