    German guided bombs

IIRC the US versions with the TV remote fell into 3 groups. 1-Glide bombs similar to the German Fritz-X 2- Small twin engined RC AC fitted with a 500 Lb bomb 3-Old tired bombers, B-17s, B-24s Rigged out with RC gear and camera. It was in one of these that Joe Kennedy, Pres. JF Kennedy's...

    German guided bombs

As to the US, they had a few radio controled bomb drones used to fairly good effect in the South Pacific. Also a radar guided glide bomb, the Bat, not so effective as it tended to get lost in ground clutter. Worked OK if ship was out in the open away from anything that might distract the radar.

    German guided bombs

I am working on an illustration of the attack of the Roma with the Fritz-X. Have relly had a hard time with solid information. If anyone has more specific inf it would be greatly appreciated. Here goes what I have Aircraft used: 11, 12 or 15 Do217s, possibly 217 E2 fromIII Gruppe, KG100...

Plane Passion The Restoration of War Birds and Other Aircraft TV Series

Discovery Channel did run a show, one episode only, on warbird recoveries. I believe it was on the Mega Movers series. Very interesting idea to do one on the restoration process, but would be hard to build a series around. Would probably have to follow a bunch of different A/C rebuilds, having...

Interesting site on aircraft of the Spanish Civil War

How many B-29s were equipped to carry Nukes? Are they not to be counted because they were only one or two? I find it fascinating the number and diversity of A/C used. Images and Illustrations at http://www.printroom.com/pro/ShepArtStudio

    PBY-5 1942 C.A.C. Images

Thanks Kiwi Great pics. I could have used some of those last month while I was searching and searching for PBY aerial details. Your first pic is just the ticket. You should send those to David Legg over at Catalina.org, (David Legg <[email protected]>) I am sure he would love those for...

    December 28, 1944

Thank you It is the kind of story you don't usually get from the history books. The desperation of the last big push, the hope of forestalling the inevitable. High School "troops" trying their best and proud of it! Fighting for one's country, regardless of political ideologies, makes one proud...

    Brodie System-L-5 on an LST

Working on a new project. Any one out there have info on the Brodie System? The series of masts and cables stuck out the side of an LST(Landing Ship Tank) in order to launch and trap L-4 and L-5 spotter A/C for the army artillery. It was actually used in combat at Saipan and Okinawa on LST...

    comparison problem

I'm not sure of the question. Are you trying to find the file in one of the two computers or are you looking for someone who might have a copy of this particular text? If you are searching the two computers for the file and know the name of the file, just put the name of the file you are...

Fw-200 Kondor on the Eastern Front

The Condor was primarily used for long range anti-shipping/recon, with some light cargo and personnel transport. Her bomb load was light, her defensive armament and armor was light and she was a very fragile craft. All of this taken into account, this is not an aircraft one wants to be flying...

    What if the P-39...

Yup, all 48 of those outdated Hurricanes they took down.....obsolete secondrate aircraft... yes they took down a bunch of older and slower stuff too. Tactics, training, and fighting for your own home have more to do with winning than just horsepower, firepower and turn radius! Soviet pilot...

    What if the P-39...

As for the Buffalo, it has also been underrated by many. Considered "Obsolete" at the start of the war. The Finns had something like a 26-1 kill ratio vs the Soviets and then the Germans........outdated aircraft......somehow I believe there is a lot more in HOW the plane is used as opposed to...

    What if the P-39...

If my memory serves(and a quick check in Google to make sure I'm not way off base) the Russians used the P-39 quite effectively as an air superiority fighter on the Eastern Front. How can an aircraft produce several dozen Russian aces if the plane can hardly fly? It would be interesting to see...

    Question about the PBY

There was a trap door in the rear belly with a MG mount, back in the tunnel aft of where the "boat" hull stops. There are several good PBY Catalina Sites on the web. I know, I've been researching them myself for doing illustrations. Chris Images and Illustrations at...

    Robert H. Goddard

You mean working in a large, noisy environment with a gun to your head! The engineers were constantly having to play the political games under intense pressure. It is amazing they launched as many as they did with the supply chain under the such pressure. By late in the war, this was a...
