Ok. I know I am late and getting this game but I'm cheap. Anyway, I was wondering is there anyway to padlock a ground target from within the cockpit? I've tried hittin F5, U, Y, etc. but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
Well, for the most basic explanation. A turbocharger (such as that used on a P-47, P-38, B-17 etc.) used a turbine to compress air before feeding it into the engine's carb. This allowed a greater oxygen concentration at altitude and thus greater engine power.
Well, I may be wrong here . . . but if we are going to limit the discussion to purpose built tank killers we are down to the Il-2 and the Hs-129. I drop the Ju-87G because it was a dive-bomber modified to a tank killer.
Plenty of aircraft could have carried a large-bore cannon. And plenty of aircraft could carry rockets (which were quite possibly the best anti-tank weapon of the war). If an airplane drops a bomd, launches a rocket, or fires a gun and destroys a tank, that plane killed the tank and the weapon...
Then how far do you take it? It was the 37mm guns on the Ju-87G that killed tanks and not the Ju-87s themselves. Do we disqualify it because other aircraft could carry the same gun?
I'm not sure about that. First of all, to this point only Fighter Command had been attacked. Bomber and Coastal Commands were still more or less intact and could have been a series obstacle. There was still the entire RN to deal with (which was vastly superior to the Kriegsmarine). Add the...
That is one thing to remember, only the stips in SE England were really being hit. The RAF still had fields in northern and western UK. Plus there was the RN to deal with.
Listing comments does reveal something about the attitude of the man. And, in general, he did speak for the British people. Can you find me any comments of Churchill suing for peace? Or suggesting a conditional surrender?
Sorry, can't believe I forgot this one...
"We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender."
A couple of things to keep in mind about Churchill.
"Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival."
"Although prepared for martyrdom, I preferred that it be postponed."
"If Hitler invaded...
The RAF would have either 1) flown from roads or grass strips (you can't bomb EVERY field in England) or the pilots and crews would have become infantry and awaited the beaches.
Churchill might not have been as fanatic as Hitler, but he was every bit as determined. Remember, Churchill...
