Hello everybody...
Long time since my last post...
I need some help ... or should I say.. clarification:
The Luftwaffe admitted the loss of 223~229 Bf110's during the Battle of Britain.
Sources:
1- Statistics of the Battle of Britain
2- Osprey Aircraft of the Aces 25 Bf110...
Thanks to all for your replies. I chose the Bf109F against P-38F because they were fighting in the same theater (Africa) and in the same period (1942). I think this comparison makes sense.... now, if I make a comparison between a P-51H against a Bf109D... well.... obviously the P-51 comes out...
Ccheese, you were there!!... my favorite topic is WWII, but after my visit to Cuba's Museo del Aire (Air Museum) and Museo de la Revolución (Revolution Museum), I felt interest in this issue and I've read a lot about this. This is the battle that could have change the destiny of Cuba, but...
Thanks Ccheese. "Sweet and to the point". I like the P-38F design, as a fact I always preferred the early models of every airplane the USAAF threw to battle: P-51B, P-38F, P-47 Razorback, B-17F, F4U-1 Corsair Birdcage, P-40B.... but I was wondering how did the P-38 behave when they first saw...
Hi everybody.
Does someone know about the Corsair Birdcage cockpit color and landing gear bays? this morning I found a site which states that cockpit and landing gear colors are not the usual interior green nor zinc chromate that we all know. This source...
Hi everybody!!
First of all, I'd wish to thank to all of you for your contribution in this matter.
Greg: Very good!! I'd wish to see the list of kills that you found.
My main interest is to see what happened down in North African / Mediterranean campaign (details of air war, of...
The first source is a SUMMARY OF LOSSES TO ALL CAUSES IN ETO (including accidents, combat losses, unknown):
P-47---------------1,043
P-38-----------------451
P-51---------------2,201
And the other source states the actual combat losses in the ETO (doesn't mention non-combat losses or...
Read carefully what this link ( http://www.taphilo.com/history/8thaf/8aflosses.shtml ) displays:
Other losses occurred too. Collisions, training accidents and so on. The table below summarizes all losses in the ETO during the war:
Aircraft Type Number Lost
B-17---------------4,754...
Okay, I'm at home right now, and guess what? I found the info. As a fact, it is not AVIATION... actually it is FLIGHT JOURNAL (august 2003). I go to page #36 at the bottom.
P-38:
Sorties = 129,820
bomb tonnage = 1,771
enemy aircraft destroyed on air = 749
enemy...
Okay, I see that you feel very confident of your sources. Well, you have your sources and I have my sources. Next step? we are going to compare... there must be at least one agreement between your sources and my sources. I don't have the sources that I'm talking about at hand, but I have it...
There are so many sources telling their "truth", but no one of us can be 100% sure of which source is correct.
Do I have to believe that some sources claim that Kill ratios were 4:1 in favor of the P-38 against german aircraft?
But if another source claims that actually kill ratios were...
