Just how good was the Mitsubishi F1M 'Pete'

One "Pete" did manage to shoot down a Wildcat, a case of been in the right place at the right time. Even the A6M2-N floatplane left the Solomons by March 1943 as it was outclassed in combat, and there were plenty of new land bases on Bougainville for land based Zeros. The night time patrol...

Just how good was the Mitsubishi F1M 'Pete'

Turn rate/radius is greatly dependent on aircraft speeds and G force limits, there is no "magic" way to make a plane turn in 100m radius at 700kph as the G forces would squash the pilot or break the plane. What I'm saying its no surprise if a F1M "Pete" biplane flying at 200mph could turn...

Bomber Command, World War II (1939-45); and the lies and corruptions of Geopolitics

Yes Bruce Carlton is a "character", thanks for the data Geoffrey I knew someone here would have some better researched facts about GB war costs.

Bomber Command, World War II (1939-45); and the lies and corruptions of Geopolitics

It piqued my interest in that the huge expense of a strategic bomber force for Britain is overlooked. One opposite is the enormous resources the Germans spent on Flak guns in response, i've seen it was something like ~10% of their war effort at times. Great Britain's WW2 effort was mostly...

Bomber Command, World War II (1939-45); and the lies and corruptions of Geopolitics

Found this article about British Bomber Command in WW2, what interesting is the incredible expense Britain spent on its heavy bomber campaign. I always wondered how Britain managed to build some 16,000's 4 engine bombers and some 20,000 2 engine bombers...

"All of Vlad's forces and all of Vlad's men, are out to put Humpty together again."

There is EU data that show Ukraine had a large reduction in the birth rate after the collapse of the USSR, this is why there is a 20 year "gap" in the mobilisation potential of Ukraine. Totally shocking, then add the losses from the current war and there will be a further cave in the male...

    Well worth the watch...Arnold Schwarzenegger's 'Anti-Hate' Message

I love Schwarzenegger's classic movies like Conan, Predator, Terminator, Total Recall these are real man movies and almost perfect, from what we now can see was the peak of US cinema about 1980-2000 (the later 2010 remake/reboots are souless GARBAGE). Unfortunately like a lot of other actors...

    J2M Raiden Performance

I can't from memory find where I saw it but I thought it was a table of supercharger fan and housing sizes, its possible I created it in trying to make sense of the conflicting information, J-wiki says its a smaller fan (but one researcher says no one really knows the size for sure) and...

    J2M Raiden Performance

Hi Alpakinator, for J2M5 you have the secondary research by WW2航空機の性能:WarbirdPerformanceBlog Look for his <Discussion 13> Raiden 33 and Mars 26. He is not super familiar with technical terms but combining with "History of Mitsubishi Engines" you get better sense. He describes the...

Question about "three speed and three-stage superchargers"

"Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Manufacturing Airplane History" (2-3)The_History_of_Mitsubishi_Aero-Engines.pdf pg.96-103 are somewhere here on this site, I think it gives the gear ratios for all Kasei 2x engines.

VC-27 combat with Tojos and Vals 25 October 1944

Yes the PI 1944 does not get the research it deserves as been the actions that broke the back of the Japanese defence strategy of island chains protecting their commerce ships supplying the home islands. There was said to be a problem with landing gear/doors opening by themselves in over...

VC-27 combat with Tojos and Vals 25 October 1944

There were numerous air reinforcements navy and army rushed to PI during late 44, which makes it hard to pinpoint where they actually based. The whole PI air campaign for the Japanese side is poorly recorded and confusing to follow, as it was a battle of annihilation conducted at high...

Question about "three speed and three-stage superchargers"

I think J2M4 had normal Kasei 2x series two speed supercharger + a turbocharger. They only made two prototypes a Model 32 and possibly 34, from what I can work out. Is this what USN called neutral blower?
