How many US Aircraft Carriers were enough?

An excellent book to read about this topic “Engineers of Victory - The problem solvers who turned the tide in the second world war” by Paul Kennedy, Random House, 2013. It’s an excellent review of the critical components of war planning and logistical execution. Chapter 5 is about the US war...

Suffolk beach find, any ideas please.

Is it aluminum? My gut reaction is a broken rudder pedal.. it has the pivot, and stiffening ribs and overall configuration. So I looked up images of rudder pedals of Bf-109, Spit, Me-110, Hurricane, but not similar. But the P-47 has some similarities. Good luck! - Art

    Post Your Models!

Here is a 1/32 Revell Ju-88A-1 I just finished for an exhibit in our local aviation museum about Luftwaffe divebombing technology based on the BZA-1 aiming system. The model represents a dive-bomb attack by a Ju-88 from KG-30 on a North Sea/North Atlantic convoy freighter early in the war. I...

Modeling propellers in motion.. what is your solution?

Finished the build, met with the curator, and hung it in the museum exhibit last week.. Feels like a child has left me and gone off to live a life of their own...

Show us what you are doing in the 'lockdown'

No, it's not.. our exhibit builder scaled down from drawings and built it out of 'foam core'. He had to take some liberties with the control column and instrumentation, so it's a bit of an interpretation. But the effect works well to give the viewer a pilot's perspective.. The IVR-1 dive...

Modeling propellers in motion.. what is your solution?

Thanks Fubar... There is a bunch of 'cleaning' up before I'll mount them permanently.. first I want to finish the rest of the fragile exterior detailing, dive brakes, antennae, defense guns, pitot tube, nav lights.. weathering is done... you can see the discs aren't in their final alignment...

Modeling propellers in motion.. what is your solution?

Good evening all, Well, the blurred prop experiment went well.. as well as I can achieve as a first-time-airbrusher.. Credit to Crimea_River for linking to the 1//32 Me-110 thread for the technique.. I used a disc of .020 clear acetate, made a paper mask with compass and basic geometry...

Show us what you are doing in the 'lockdown'

Finishing up a Revell 1/32 Ju-88A-1 for an exhibit on WW2 dive bombing technology for our local aviation museum. Right now there's just a cardboard cut-out of the Ju-88 dropping its 1000kg bomb.

    Diorama ideas....

Man, this thread is chock full of excellent ideas.. Here are hours and hours of film from a German archive that is searchable and offers endless ideas and (moving) images of daily and operational life on the German side of WW2... here are three random selections; Filmarchiv | Agentur Karl...

    Gyro Cut Craft Cutting Tool

X-Acto has a tool that employs a blade in the same kind of swiveling tip.. I use it regularly to cut sheets of vinyl-transfer layers free-hand, and vinyl silk-screening sheets for graphics projects. It would definitely do what this video demonstrates... The blade is tilted towards the back...

Rookie question on decal silvering.. relating to airbrush paint surface and 'Future' acrylic floor clear.

Thank you Robert - all of your advice is spot-on and unambiguous... - Yes, I'm using a double-action Badger. I like it. To date I've concentrated using a constant pressure, varying the paint flow only, as I learn. The tip occasionally accumulates some paint, but not enough to cause an...

Rookie question on decal silvering.. relating to airbrush paint surface and 'Future' acrylic floor clear.

At this point I have shot the dull coat on the model.. Here is the belly... I think you can discern the surface under the 'balkenkreuz' decal..

Rookie question on decal silvering.. relating to airbrush paint surface and 'Future' acrylic floor clear.

True, but whichever supplier has product with the lesser cost wins customers.. I have the following update on my experiments; I was not able to prevent *some* silvering of the decals on this very gritty surface.. note the 'Shield' emblem near the nose of the Ju-88, the edges have some...

Rookie question on decal silvering.. relating to airbrush paint surface and 'Future' acrylic floor clear.

Thank you guys, and Wurger - for the 'demonstration' - it's very confidence-building to know THAT many coats didn't diminish the surface detail enough to bother you.. (or?).. I experimented with small redundant decals and it seems to be working well enough to apply acrylic clear (Mop-n-Glow)...
