Could someone please explain the various "Serie" of the Italian fighters. For example, I see the Fiat G.55, Macchi C.205, and Reggiane Re.2005 referred to as "Serie 5" Italian fighters. What does "Serie 5" mean? Where there Serie 1 through 4? Thanks.
