Apologies if this is better off in the Stories Forum or elsewhere. My grandfather (now deceased) was F/L Peter Humphry-Baker who flew with the 487 Squadron with the RNZAF. He was with Commander Thomas in the story in this post:

Which came as a shock as I was just in Gothenburg, Sweden for the first time and had no idea he'd ever been through it, even if it was just during transport to Falun. I loved reading their accounts of what occured.

Does anyone happen to know where to look to get more information regarding the 487 Squadron, more specifically during his time with them? I've tried the Wartime Memorial Project (The Wartime Memories Project - Preserving Memories of The Great War and World War Two), which seems to have a lot of information but they seem really busy and it's been tough getting questions answered.

This book looks interesting as well:

But I haven't ordered it and may be my next step.

Many thanks,
Dustin

Hi Dustin. A quick thing, 487 (New Zealand) Sqn was an RAF unit rather than RNZAF, so you are most likely to find more information in Britain rather than New Zealand. Was your grandfather British? If so, you can get access to his personnel file through the RAF Personnel Management Agency, which used to be at RAF Innsworth, but you will have to prove kinship. If you are after more information about the unit, I would suggest you contact the Department of Research at the RAF Museum at Hendon.
