Did the targets that were chosen for 8th AAF bombing missions during WWII come directly from a U.S. organization called the Enemy Objectives Unit? It was part of something called the U.S. Economic Warfare Department. Were they part of the military? They did produce target intelligence and dossiers which included "aiming point reports" for hundreds of German industrial plants and military installations, showing the most vulnerable points within those targets.
Does anyone know where the EOU appendices reside (repository or published)? These are the actual target descriptions.
I assume that the details were updated during the war, as most targets were degraded but never completely destroyed. I am looking at mission reports at the Bomb Group level that usually state the primary and secondary objectives with their MPI (mean point of impact). Most do not state details and importance about the actual target. That may have been stated verbally by the intel officers during the mission briefings. My period of interest is in the 1st half of 1944 up until the invasion.
